frisbee_golf_frolfHave you heard of Frolf?  Frolf, also know as Disc or Frisbee Golf, is a flying disc game. It is a precision and accuracy sport in which individual players throw a flying disc at a target. According to Paul Ince of the Professional Disc Golf Association, “the object of the game is to traverse a course from beginning to end in the fewest number of throws of the disc”. The number of disc golf courses doubled in the 8 years from 2000 to 2008. The game is played in about 40 countries around the world.

This Sunday, September 7, Grove City becomes home to another recreation experience as the new Grove City Community Disc Golf Course opens on the campus of the Grove City Church of the Nazarene located on 4770 Hoover Road. The ribbon cutting for the disc golf course takes place at 1 p.m. as part of the Grove City Food Truck Festival at The Naz. The Food Truck Fest will be Sept. 8, from 11 AM to 4 PM. The day will be packed with fun for the entire family- inflatables, a rock climbing wall, a mechanical bull, and live music from the Naz band. We will also be hosting a corn hole tournament and free throw shooting contest. Don’t forget there will be more than 10 food trucks featuring great local food. golf

The new course in Grove City is a great way for beginners to learn the game, for families or friends of different skill levels to participate truckstogether or for more competitive players to keep their skills sharp or enjoy a leisurely round close to home. The object of disc golf is the same as traditional golf – complete the course by throwing discs into metal targets with the fewest tries. Players can use a traditional flying disc or Frisbee® or more specialized discs designed for the sport. The disc golf course is open to the public from dawn to dusk. Participants may park in the church parking lot.
